Performance of the Old Mill Portfolios
Portfolios started August with falls across equities and bonds as strong economic data from many developed countries led to the view that interest rates may have to stay higher for longer in order to tackle inflation.
The impact of higher rates is starting to feed through and fears receded as the month went on with strong recovery in asset prices.

Performance since the last insight (from Friday 4 August 2023 to Friday 1 September 2023)
Very low risk portfolios held value over the period, seeing less downside than riskier portfolios, albeit also seeing a smaller share of the recovery from mid month.

Over the year, the impact of the Truss / Kwateng mini budget last year is still dragging down performance with only the very high risk portfolio showing a positive return.

Investing is a longer-term pursuit and taking a look at the ten year graph to September, the portfolios are showing a more robust picture depending on the risk you have taken.

Sustainable portfolios performance was stronger than the standard portfolios over the period with US stocks doing well, which have a higher allocation in the sustainable portfolios.
