The Managing Director at Datasharp was approached by a national group to buy her company. She had never considered this option before and had no idea where to start. She found herself in good hands though, this is where Old Mill specialises.
Datasharp is a successful telecoms and IT business operating in the South West. Under the supervision of Managing Director Jane, it grew into a thriving company with a brilliant team, loyal customers, and a great reputation in the industry.
As Jane and her team began to think about the future, they decided it was time to find a new home for Datasharp. They were proud of the business they had built and wanted to leave it in the right way, for the right price, and in the right hands.
But like many business owners, they weren’t quite sure where to begin.
Jane had never sold a business before. She wasn’t sure how much it might be worth, what a sale would look like, or even who she might sell to.
She was also worried about what might happen to the team, many of whom had been with her for years. Datasharp had been approached by a few buyers before, but always hesitated.
Something just didn’t feel right, and the shareholders didn’t want to jump into anything without fully understanding what was involved.
Jane needed a plan. And someone to guide her through it.
We were privileged that Jane (MD of Datasharp) saw us as the trusted team of people to help her through this once-in-a-lifetime process, particularly as Datasharp had not been an Old Mill client previously.
We worked with the shareholders to ensure we not only secured the best outcome for them personally, but also the best future for the business. Once the desired outcome was clear in our minds, it quickly became apparent that Focus Group was the buyer best positioned to take Datasharp forward on the next stage of its exciting journey.
It was an absolute pleasure to advise Jane and the highly skilled senior management team to deliver this transaction. Likewise, it was great to be working with a highly professional buyer and skilled advisory teams on both sides.

After the deal was closed, Jane and the shareholders said goodbye to the business with real peace of mind. But our work didn’t stop there.
We continued to support Datasharp with:
- A strategy to manage the proceeds of the sale
- Tax planning to make sure everything was as efficient as possible
