12th April 2022

Producers across the South West have once again excelled themselves, reinforcing the reputation of the West Country as industry leaders. Last week, Taste of the West established the first phase of Gold, Silver and Commended award winners in the 2022 Product Awards scheme. The results of Phase 2 are set to be announced at the beginning of April, and producers are still able to submit their entry for Phase 3 judging, deadline Friday 6 Moy.

The standard of this year’s phase 1 entrants was of an exceptionally high quality. Amongst the best performing new entries from the South West’s food and drink sector was The Gamekeeper’s Larder – in Somerset – who impressed the judges with their fantastic array of venison products which earned a full house of four Gold awards. Other notable new entries included: Michael’s Butchers, Bistro and Deli in Malmesbury, who were awarded six Gold awards for their mixture of sweet and savoury treats, Robyn’s Roost and Rise Bakery from Cornwall who received four gold awards apiece, and Biokef in Devon, the recipients of two gold awards for flavours in their Kefir range.

Familiar favourites returned to win copious gold awards, namely Granny Gothards in Devon, who produced yet another delightful selection of ice creams; Lynher Dairies in Truro with a fantastic assortment of cheeses, and Duchy Charcuterie in Cornwall who again captivated with their charcuterie range. Producers in the West Country submitted 450 products for judging and collected in total 299 Gold, 93 Silver and 36 Commended awards. The full list of winners can be found here.
